As we come to a close in our time at the Iowa State College of Design we present our final project, our CAPSTONE. The number 78 represents each student participating in the event. Our sophisticated yet approachable design reflects the event goal of connecting students and professionals alike.

The design team behind the Graphic Design Senior Show was a creative powerhouse, bringing together their expertise in branding, web design, invitations, wayfinding, and event planning to deliver a truly memorable experience. With a focus on collaboration between professionals and students, the show presents a range of senior capstone and final projects that push the boundaries of creativity and design. With their unique blend of creativity and organizational skills, the design team brought the vision of the Graphic Design Senior Show to life, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.
Our capstone design aims to create an approachable, intentional, and sophisticated solution. The name of the show represents the work from all 78 Graphic Design students that are participating in this year’s event.
Graphic design at Iowa State University has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. In 1915, a course in lettering and sign painting was offered in the Department of Industrial Arts, which is now known as the College of Design.
In the 1920s, the program expanded to include courses in advertising and layout design. By the 1940s, the program had evolved into a full-fledged curriculum in graphic design, with courses in typography, illustration, and advertising design.
In the 1960s and 70s, Iowa State became a leading center for graphic design education under the leadership of Lester Beall, a well-known graphic designer who served as a visiting professor at the university. During this time, the program emphasized a modernist design approach, which focused on simplicity, functionality, and the use of grids and typography as the building blocks of design.
Today, the Graphic Design program at Iowa State University continues to be a leader in the field, offering a comprehensive curriculum that emphasizes both traditional design skills and the use of cutting-edge technology. Graduates of the program have gone on to successful careers in a variety of industries, including advertising, publishing, and interactive media.
